Jim Talbert

Pastor

Pastor Talbert was raised in a Christian family, attended a solid Fundamental Independent Baptist Church growing up, and attended and graduated from, a Baptist Christian school. In 1988 he married his high school sweetheart, Clarissa. Almost seven years later, on October 15, 1995, the Lord became real in his life; he repented of his sins and called upon the Lord Jesus Christ to save him.

Almost immediately, the Lord began working in his and his wife’s hearts and lives, moving them toward ministry. In 1996 many things changed, and they moved back to Wichita Kansas from Kansas City Missouri. In 1997 Jim became the youth director of Bethel Baptist Church, Wichita, KS, under Pastor Ted Swope. In 1999, while at church youth camp with the youth, God made His calling clear, and Jim surrendered to preaching and full-time ministry.

In 2002, Pastor Talbert and his family moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to attend Heartland Baptist Bible College, graduating with his BA in Theology in 2005. After college, God led the Talberts back to Bethel Baptist in Wichita to assist with the youth, and to prepare them for their next step in ministry.

In February of 2007, Jim became the pastor of an Independent Baptist Church in Derby, Kansas, where they remained until August 2018. From August 2018 to October 2020, Pastor Talbert and Clarissa served with Pastor Gary Carty and his wife, Judy, at Berean Baptist Church in Wichita while praying for and seeking God’s will and direction.

In September 2020 Pastor Barrett Harrelson of King’s Hiway Baptist Church contacted Pastor Talbert to pray about coming to be the pastor of KHBC. On October 14, 2020, the church voted to call Pastor Talbert to be the interim pastor, and on April 14, 2021, the church voted to make the calling permanent.

Pastor Talbert has a burden for children, bus ministry, youth, and families young and old. His passion is the expository preaching and teaching of the Word. It is his belief that the faithful Biblical preaching and teaching of the Word of God is the key to helping people of all ages and of every walk of life. Without Jesus, they are helpless and without hope. We preach Jesus (Acts 5:42) and Jesus gives them hope.
